Evernote is fine if you note-taking is adjusted to a twitter mindset - short quick notes, reminders and todo things. I also find I like Onenote for composing notes much much better than Evernote's flakey editor. (And yes, markdown support would go part of the way there, but pictures, text boxes, ink are all important too for my "personal memory store".) Evernote, if you just ripped out the note editor and replaced it, I'd be _so_ happy. What I really want is the love child of EN and ON - Evernote's structure, UI, search and organization, and focus on productivity, with OneNote's underlying note storage and editing framework. And Evernote's web clipper is so much better than ON's it's laughable. There's almost no customizability the way EN has. ON 2013 uses the weird "Office Ribbon" concept so most of the menus are gone or at least hidden, and the whole "MS Office" whitespace abomination. #Office 2016 outlook for mac review androidThe Android version of ON completely lacks undo (!!!) which is kind of a showstopper, especially with ink. On the downside: ON's organization and menus are weird - Evernote is much simpler and search is much better. Ink mode on Android almost approaches LectureNotes, which for me is the gold standard of stylus-based note-taking on Android, with one giant caveat (below). You can turn ink into text and even math (!). Drawing works as you'd expect and syncs across all devices (for me, Windows, Android phone/tablet and web). ![]() Text boxes, tables, styles, all gorgeous. Turns out ON was _perfect_ for what I needed there the note formatting is light-years ahead of EN, and it just works. #Office 2016 outlook for mac review codeI just tried OneNote for the first time too I'm a very long-time Evernote user, and just the other day I got _so_ frustrated by the abysmal formatting problems in EN (I was using the Windows client, and I couldn't get it to stop indenting after an indented paragraph, and _really_ was missing a Code style, and my bullet lists kept getting messed up) I thought ***** it, I'm going to try OneNote. In OneNote tabs automatically create tables, which is nice.īut I'm not sure it can replace Evernote as my catch-all free-form database, where I keep thousands of scraps of info I don't want to keep in my head. In Evernote you can't even use tabs to align columns, which has always been a nuisance. I would really love to see better formatting in Evernote. It doesn't have a true presentation mode like Evernote does, but the actual formatting of the notes is nicer. It seems maybe better than EverNote for things like preparing class notes to project because of the containers, better formatting, and the ability to resize images. I tried it and it works, but then the syncing of the imported notes doesn't work well after that. There is a 3rd party solution for this for Windows called "evernote2onenote". There is also no really good way of importing your notes from Evernote to OneNote on the Mac. The OneNote "copy text from a picture" feature is cool. On the other hand, I am a premium user of Evernote, so that makes no difference for me. #Office 2016 outlook for mac review OfflineOne advantage of OneNote for iOS is that you can keep all your synced notes offline for free, while that is a premium feature of Evernote. I think there is some way to do draw annotations in Evernote but I've never gotten it to work. If I want to draw something I can do it in OneNote on my iPad and then see it sync in the note I'm editing on my Mac, but still. And the little blue ball at the bottom didn't help at all when I tried sliding it. One question I had is it really true you can't resize images in Evernote? At least make them bigger? I added an iPhone screenshot to a note, but it was so tiny I could barely see it. ![]() It even lags behind the iOS version! For example, there is no draw feature, while the iPad and Windows version let you annotate and add more things.Īlso, even though OneNote has these nice "containers" you can move around, and generally much better formatting and image views than Evernote, you can't do simple things on the Mac, such as shift containers down to make space, which you can do in the Windows version. ![]() #Office 2016 outlook for mac review freeThe latest OneNote for Mac (a free app) is interesting, but also frustrating in many cases. I've been comparing Evernote with OneNote for the first time and would love to see a few enhancements to Evernote.
